Are you using the A&E Department correctly?

Dated: 21-Aug-12

We would like to advise our patients that the A&E Department should be used in appropriate circumstances only. Some medical problems can more appropriately be dealt with by a GP appointment or by contacting the GP Out Of Hours service.  It is very important that all of our NHS services are used in the correct way, and that A&E is reserved for exactly those situations which are accidents or true emergencies.

We would like to remind you that within our practice, a patient who feels he or she must be seen on the same day will always be given an appointment, and that the GP OOH service will do the same.  This service can be reached when the surgery is closed by telephoning the practice number, when a message will give the required information.

We would be grateful if you can work with us to manage our NHS resources as well as possible, and if you have a question about your particular A&E attendance, we will be happy to discuss it with you.

Yours sincerely
